What is microchanneling and how does it benefit my skin?
Microchanneling is a non-invasive procedure that utilizes fine, sterile needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing process, promoting the production of collagen, elastin, and other essential building blocks of healthy skin. The result is an improvement in skin texture, tone, and overall appearance. At Sexy Visage, our expert technicians are trained to perform microchanneling safely and effectively, ensuring that you experience the full benefits of this innovative skin rejuvenation treatment. Whether you're looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, minimize pore size, or enhance the overall health of your skin, microchanneling can help you achieve your skincare goals.
What is the difference between microneedling and microchanneling?
Microneedling and microchanneling are both popular cosmetic treatments aimed at improving skin texture, reducing scars, and promoting collagen production. The first difference is the device and technique used to perform the treatment. A microneedling device involves using a handheld roller covered in tiny needles dragged over the skin.
This method can tear the skin. On the other hand, the microchanneling device encompasses a linear stamping technique, resulting in clean, consistent microchannels. This leads to reduced risk of skin tearing and a more controlled treatment process.
At Sexy Visage, we offer microchanneling as a gentler and more precise alternative to microneedling. Our trained professionals use advanced microchanneling devices to create microchannels in the skin, stimulating the body's natural healing process without causing unnecessary damage.
This results in improved skin texture, reduction of fine lines and scars, and an overall rejuvenated appearance. With microchanneling at Sexy Visage, you can achieve beautiful, youthful-looking skin with minimal discomfort and downtime.
Does it hurt?
Not much! You will have some discomfort, but by the end of your treatment, it subsides. There is no lingering discomfort, and we have several strategies to minimize pain during treatment and reduce redness after the treatment. After the procedure, most people report a “tight” feeling in their skin.
Our trained professionals are dedicated to ensuring your comfort throughout the process and can provide additional information and tips to manage any sensations you may experience. Our priority is to make sure you have a positive and comfortable experience while achieving your desired results.
How long does it take to see results from Microchanneling?
While the production of new collagen, known as neo-collagenesis, can take several weeks, clients typically start noticing an improvement in the quality and appearance of their skin within the first 24 hours after a treatment at Sexy Visage. After 2 to 3 treatments, a thicker, more robust, collagen-filled cellular matrix will produce more consistent and noticeable improvement. For the most dramatic and long-lasting results, we recommend six or more treatments to fully benefit from the transformative effects of our collagen treatments.
Can anyone get microchanneling?
At Sexy Visage, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our clients. While microchanneling is a safe and effective treatment for many, there are certain underlying conditions that could make it unsuitable for individuals.
If you have any underlying condition that significantly impairs your immune system, it’s a good idea to avoid microchanneling.
Examples include but are not limited to active radiation or chemotherapy, uncontrolled diabetes, chronic inflammatory skin disease, Accutane in the past two years, hemophilia, similar bleeding disorder, Pregnant/Brest feeding, severely dry skin, active Herpes.
It's important to always disclose any medical conditions or medications you are currently taking to our staff before undergoing any treatment at Sexy Visage. Our team is committed to providing personalized care and ensuring that each client receives the most suitable and beneficial services for their individual needs.
How do I book my appointment?
To determine if you are a perfect candidate for microchanneling, we require a consultation. The consultation is an investment of $30, but will be waived at your first appointment. During the consultation, we will go over your expectations, possible results, and conduct a screening to ensure this treatment is suitable for your skin type and condition. We will also provide you with a personalized treatment plan. This process allows us to ensure that microchanneling is the right choice for you and that we can achieve the best possible results.
Can I take my usual medications or supplements?
Generally, you should avoid blood-thinning agents for about 3 days prior to help minimize pinpoint bleeding or bruising. These include: NSAIDs (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil). Supplements like Vitamin E, Fish Oil, and Ginkgo Biloba. Note: Always consult your doctor before pausing any prescription medications.
Can I exercise or drink alcohol before my session?
Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment, as it dehydrates the skin and thins the blood. Exercise: It’s best to get your workout in before your appointment. You will need to avoid sweating and heavy exercise for at least 24–48 hours after the procedure.
What should I avoid doing to my skin before the appointment?
To prevent irritation or adverse reactions, you should stop using certain active ingredients. 7 days before: Avoid direct, prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds. Do not get a chemical peel or laser treatment. 3–5 days before: Stop using Retin-A (Retinol), Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) like glycolic acid, and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) like salicylic acid. 24 hours before: Avoid shaving the treatment area to prevent extra sensitivity.
Timeline Action Item
1 Week Before: Stay hydrated and avoid sun/tanning. 3-5 Days Before: Stop Retinol and exfoliating acids. 24 Hours Before: Avoid alcohol and NSAIDs. Day Of: Clean skin, no makeup, and eat a light meal.
What does my skin look like immediately after?
You will likely experience a 'sunburned' look. Your skin will be pink or red and may feel tight or warm to the touch. This usually subsides significantly within 4 to 24 hours. Some minor localized swelling or 'puffy' skin is also normal.
When can I wash my face?
First 6 hours: Do not touch your skin or apply anything other than the post-care serum provided by your technician. After 6–12 hours: You can gently rinse your face with lukewarm water only. After 24 hours: You can use a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser. Avoid washcloths or scrubbing brushes; use only your clean fingertips.
Can I wear makeup?
You should wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup. Important: When you do apply makeup for the first time, ensure your brushes and sponges are freshly cleaned to prevent introducing bacteria into the healing channels.
How long should I stay out of the sun?
Your skin will be photosensitive (highly sensitive to light). First 24 hours: Avoid direct sun entirely. Days 2–7: Apply a physical/mineral sunscreen (Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide) every morning. Chemical sunscreens may sting or irritate the skin during this window.
What products should I avoid?
Until your skin has completely stopped peeling or feeling sensitive (usually 3–5 days): No 'Actives': Skip Retinols, Vitamin C serums, and Glycolic/Salicylic acids. No Scented Products: Avoid perfumes or heavily fragranced moisturizers. No Power Brushes: Put away the Clarisonic or similar exfoliating tools.
