10 Questions: Vendor Interview with The Cake Rendezvous & Co.

Hello everyone! We’re back with another spotlight in our wedding vendor series. There is truly nothing better than pulling back the curtain on the incredible, passionate creators who help turn a couple’s wedding day into pure magic.

Today, we are chatting with the master baker and floral artist behind The Cake Rendezvous & Co.

 From exquisite tiered cakes to stunning keepsake alternative bouquets, she brings a uniquely tailored, artistic touch to every celebration.

Tell us about yourself and how The Cake Rendezvous & Co. came to be?

I would say that since I was a young girl I have always had a artistic flair. From everything to expressing myself with fashion to drawing and sewing.

As a young adult I was introduced to cake decorating by chance when I applied to be a cake decorator at a local Dairy Queen. After I was hired I instantly loved the position and wanted to learn more. In my free time I started teaching myself new cake decorating skills such as buttercream flowers and making and assembling tiered cakes.

After my DQ days I worked for various other companies honing my craft. Until I decided that working under another company just wasn't for me. So I began pursuing other work and moonlighting as a cake decorator/baker under my own name. Eventually my passion turned into my career when I decided to solely pursue my passion in 2020. Thus The Cake Rendezvous was born. Since then I have been blessed to be a part of hundreds of weddings and celebrations.

You offer a unique blend of custom cakes and "Alternative Flowers." How did you decide to combine these two worlds?

Since I’ve always had a passion for design, I naturally noticed how much I enjoyed using fresh florals to elevate a cake’s design. Then a spark hit: why don’t I start creating unique bridal bouquets too? From there, the idea completely spiraled into reality!

What is your favorite part about being a part of a couple’s wedding day?

I enjoy seeing them interact together and how they choose to express their personal style through little details on their special day. From their ensemble choices to the "little details" like a custom cake topper.

Oftentimes these little details go unappreciated and even unnoticed by their guests. But as someone who is all about details... I see them. And it is these little things that often tell a story about the couple and their love story. I love seeing a little personal touch. Don't get me wrong trendy color palettes and decore can be beautiful...but it is not personal to the couple and doesn't add to the story of their actual relationship and personalities as individuals.

What inspires your creative designs when a couple gives you a blank canvas?

I love to get to know the couple a bit before they book me for their special day. At their tasting I ask them a few questions to get to know them a bit better. Questions such as what do both of them do for work...and do they enjoy their work? What do they enjoy doing outside of work such as hobbies or interests. I also ask how they meet, how long have they been dating. As well as who popped the question and how? Then I ask about if they have a color pallete or vibe that they are envisioning on their special day. Then I go from there with creating something I think they will appreciate.

What does your creative process look like, from the initial taste test to the final execution on wedding day?

I always conduct an in person taste testing in the comfort of my own dining room. This allows me to meet the couple and get a feel for their likes, style, and desires for their special day. I take notes and always ask the bride and groom what their two favorite flavors were that they sampled.

If they are interested in florals as well we talk about color palettes they like. I ask if the couple would like to see a specific type of flower(s) in their wedding florals whether it has sentimental meaning or symbolism or it is just simply a favorite flower. These details matter to me to give the couple a more personalized experience.

After the initial consultation and a couple decides to book then we stay in touch in the upcoming months to make final decisions. Cakes don't require as much in depth research as florals do. With creating a custom bouquet I spend hours online searching for specific elements to match the couple's vision and bring it all together on the wedding day.

For the "Alternative Flowers," what materials do you use, and what are the benefits for brides who choose these over traditional blooms?

For creating a custom bridal bouquet I pride myself in selecting premium blooms that look and even oftentimes feel like the real deal. Besides higher quality artificial blooms I use various alternative materials such as genuine crystals, printed paper florals, genuine dried leaves and blooms, rhinestones, ribbons, and various embellishments. The benefit of choosing a custom alternative bouquet is that the bride has a keepsake to enjoy for years to come.

If the couple chooses faux floral rentals the benefit is paying less for a product that looks and photographs just as well as fresh florals without the waste afterward.

Do you have a signature cake flavor or a "fan favorite" dessert that most couples can't resist?

It seems that my most popular and best selling flavor cake that I make has come to be my lemon cake paired with a fruit filling and cream cheese icing. It doesn't seem like one fruit filling is the more popular they are about all equal.

My desert grazing table options and mini cheesecakes have also been on the rise in popularity.

How do you handle the design process for couples who have a specific theme but aren't sure how to translate it into a cake or table-scape?

After conducting a in person consultation with a couple and asking them a series of questions to get a feel for what their style and vibes might be.

I begin with the creation of a couple mood boards for designing their florals and tablescape. Then submit them to the couple for their stamp of approval.

What is one piece of advice you’d give a bride who is just starting to plan?

Besides recommending what elements of a wedding to tackle first. I suggest that when choosing a cake/ dessert vendor specifcally they go with their gut. Literally!!

I suggest to schedule 3 tastings with 3 different companies then afterward if one feels right and tastes right to trust it. If they have only been to two vendors but get all the vibes from one to just cancel that third consult and go with their gut and instincts. Don't even bother wasting their time or another vendors time if they already have that gut feeling. Always go with your gut instincts they won't lie.
