Having Oily Skin can be a blessing, but it can also be a burden. You apply the perfect makeup only for it slide off by the end of the day. You use blotting sheets and powder, only to look like you have been baking cakes all day. Leaving you like... Well a greasy mess. OUCH! Yes, I said it. It does suck, but having oily skin is so underrated. The one bonus, is less wrinkles. The oil build up provides softer skin, but on the other hand it also causes breakouts no matter what age you are. So expect to see a pimple or two on your face.

So what is oily skin?

Oily skin is the over production of Sebum. Sebum is a substance that is made from fat. It is also healthy and promotes natural radient skin. It helps to hydrate and moisturize your skin, but having to much can create oily skin. Which causes clogged pores.

How do I get oily skin?

Having oily skin is very common, but here are some things that are uncommon.

  • Genetic, you can thank mom or dad for this one 😉

  • Environment, if you live in a hot humid area than you might have a over production of sebum.

  • Overwashing, Washing your face once or twice A-day is perfectly fine, but if you are not moisturizing this can cause overproduction of oils.

  • Hormonal changes

  • Poor diet

  • Cosmetics, not all cosmetics are right for your skin.

How do I treat oily skin?

Find you a good cleanser that has salicylic acid or oil in it. I know this sounds crazy, but using a oil based cleanser helps to confuse your skin by thinking you have enough oil on your skin. Salicylic acid is like a light exfoliator to help get rid of those pimples.

It all starts with great products?

A great cleanser with oil and its foamy is the Neutrogena ultra gental daily cleanser this cleanser is perfect for everyday use and it promises not to strip your skin of its natural oils. If you would like a cleanser with salicylic acid then the

Peter Thomas Roth Acne Clearing Wash 2% Salicylic Acid is pefect for you. It has pro-vitamins B5.

When using a exfoliator it is best to minimize the frequency of usage. Over exfoliating can cause your skin to produce to much sebum. A good one to try would be Garnier skin active clean+ blackhead eliminating scrub.

In reguards to toner, less is more. Especially if the product has alcohol in it, alchohol based products xan dry out your skin. Which causes your face to go into overdrive thinking you need extra moisture. So stay away from any products that have alchohol or any harsh chemicals.

For serum use the Kypris Clearing Serum. This serum is perfect for balencing sebum production and clearing up any acne that you may have. Not to mention that it is perfect for sensitive skin. Oh yeah, I thoughy you may like this one. 😆

Whenever you are buying moisturizer try to opt for lightweight products. That DO NOT clog your pores. One i use on almost all of my clients is the Neutrogena hydroboost water gel and the Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel. Both are lightweight and will not clog pores. Before my skin became dry I used to use the Clinique moisturizer on my skin everyday. I also use this one on my clients as well.
