Behind the veil: A conversation with a past bride on her wedding day

A Sexy Visage Exclusive Interview with Morgan Maybry-Greenfield

I have never been so emotional until I had the pleasure of doing Morgan's Bridal Makeup for her big day. From her mothers encouragement, her sisters jokes and her grandmothers wisdom, it was like the perfect ambiance of the magic that was yet to come. I was happy and sad at the same time. Mostly, because I knew that the day had arrived and it was showtime. I was happy as I could see that the love that everyone had around her was genuine. Her eyes twinkled with excitement and happiness. As if this was a page out of a storybook. It was a sight to behold. As the Curtin closed and the goodbyes were said, I walked off being thankful that I was able to feel a glimpse of their love.

It is always a pleasure to be reminded that it's the small things that truly matter. This interview is a perfect example of that. It's an opportunity to take a step back from the wedding, and reflect on the little moments that make life so special. As the writer, I hope that you (the reader) will take away the same feelings of joy and appreciation that I have while creating this piece. So get cozy and keep reading for more.

What was your wedding inspiration?

We just wanted it to be as elegant, timeless, and romantic as possible. We also wanted to include a lot of personal touches so the wedding really felt like us as a couple, and wasn’t a copy and paste from a Pinterest board. (Although Pinterest was really helpful for décor inspo!)

You had two makeup trials, what made you decide on having two trials?

I’m a really particular person and had a specific vision of how I wanted to look. I really liked the makeup in our first trial, but it didn’t feel like me, and I wanted to try another look to get the look that I envisioned. (Spoiler alert, it was perfect and exactly what I imagined!)

What was your most anticipated part of your wedding day?

Other than getting married, showing my husband my wedding dress!! I bought it a year and a half before our wedding, and it was SO hard to keep it a secret. I almost accidentally showed him so many times, but it was well worth the wait.

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?

I accidentally gave Mattie the incorrect address for our getting ready location, so I screwed up our timeline a little, but everything worked itself out and honestly didn’t impact our day at all!

What ended up being your favorite part of the day?

We decided to have dinner in a room separate from all of our guests so we could recharge and spend 20 minutes with each other alone. We were also really looking forward to our food and wanted to eat it without being interrupted. We are SO glad that we did and it’s definitely one of our favorite things we did.

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?

I know it’s the typical advice, but the day really does go by SO FAST. You spend months planning the day, only for it to be over in an instant. Try to find as many moments to connect with your partner as possible on the day of. It’s easy to get lost and distracted by all your guests coming up to talk to you and take pictures with you. Don’t feel guilty for stepping away and sharing a few private moments with your spouse! The day is to celebrate you and your spouse’s love and commitment to each other, so you’re allowed to take some time to spend with each other to take a moment to breathe.

Were you nervous? How did you squash the nerves?

YES, right before I walked down the aisle. I wasn’t expecting to be nervous, but I think it hit me that Jeremy and I would finally be seeing each other, and I was nervous that he wouldn’t like my dress. (Which was stupid; he loved it.) The second shooter was standing by my mom and I before we walked down the aisle and walked me through some breathing exercises, which really helped.

What was the biggest surprise on your wedding day?

I didn’t cry as much as I thought I would, and my husband cried more than I did! I was definitely emotional, but I think knowing that so many people were looking at me and would see my cry kept those tears in.

Tell me about some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them!

My mom and I’s favorite song is The Best Day by Taylor Swift and so much of it fits our relationship. I knew I would be doing a mother daughter dance with her and wanted to change the words to the song to fit us better, so I recorded my own cover and surprised her with it. We got it on video, and it always makes me emotional every time I watch it. We also had cocktail napkins with our 3 dogs and cat on them so we could include them in the day. We also love trying international chip flavors, so we had a bunch of our favorites as a late night snack.

Any advice for those couples planning their wedding now?

People are going to have so many opinions about your wedding day and what they think you should do. Just remember that the day is about you and your partner. The only opinions that matter are the two of yours, so just let everyone else’s go in one ear and out the other. Otherwise, it’s easy to get stressed about it. You also don’t want to look back on your wedding day and regret any choices that you made because you felt like it was expected of you by others.

How did you feel at the end of the day?

Both like I was on cloud 9, and also sad that the day was over so quickly. People weren’t kidding when they said it went by in the blink of an eye.

What are you most looking forward to now that you are married?

Definitely traveling to as many places as possible and knocking things off of our home renovations to do list.

What did you like most about working with Sexy Visage?

Just how smooth the overall experience was. I showed Mattie my inspiration pictures and told her what the most important things were to me, and she executed my vision perfectly. It was really nice to know that I was in great hands for my makeup and didn’t have to worry about whether or not I’d like it.

Is there anything you would have changed about Sexy Visage?

Absolutely not! I worked exclusively with Mattie and loved working with her. She was so knowledgeable and easy to get along with and brought a level of calm to the wedding day, which was much appreciated.

Last question: how did your makeup make you feel?

Literally like a queen and a Disney princess at the same time. I wish I could look the way I did for my wedding everyday!

In conclusion, Morgan's wedding was a truly special and unforgettable day that was filled with an abundance of love and joy. Every moment was a reflection of the beautiful bond shared between Morgan and Jeremy. We wish them a lifetime of happiness together as they embark on this new journey as husband and wife. May their love continue to grow and flourish with each passing day. Cheers to the newlywed!
